64 Years
in the Making.

In 1962, Capitola was a different place. The ordinance made sense for its time. And for 64 years, this community grew — in art, in culture, in coastal creativity — into something truly special.

Now the city is ready for the next chapter. Staff, council members, and Village business owners have come together around a shared vision — giving Capitola Village something it has never had but has always deserved.

Village Body Art will be Capitola Village's first fine art tattoo studio. A destination rooted in the creativity, the coastline, and the soul of this community. This is Capitola saying yes to itself — and we couldn't be more grateful to be part of it.

The Partnership

A Community
Decision.

This isn't one person's vision imposed on a beloved coastal village. This is Capitola coming together — residents and the city rallying behind something the Village has never had but has always deserved.

Step 1 · Completed

Presentation to City Staff

We presented our vision for Village Body Art directly to Capitola city staff. We walked them through what the studio would be, what it would mean for the community, and what it would take to make it happen. They agreed. City staff are on board and supportive of moving the process forward.

Met With Every City Council Member

We sat down with every member of the Capitola City Council individually. We listened, answered questions, and shared what this studio means for the city's culture and economy. Not one council member has a problem with an ordinance change. The conversation has been welcomed, not resisted.

Village Business Community Is On Board

We've spoken with business owners throughout Capitola Village. Every single one we've talked to is on board and in support of Village Body Art. The business community sees this as a win for the Village — a new destination that brings more people through the door for everyone.

We Stood Before the Commission.

On June 4th we made our case directly. We asked the Commission to call it what it is — body art, aligned with California state law. To permit it by right, just like any other personal service in the Village. And to keep it to one studio, protecting the character of Capitola Village. Council members, Village business owners, and residents spoke up. Overwhelmingly positive. Not one concern raised.

Step 5 · Up Next — July 16th

Planning Commission Vote.

On July 16th, the Capitola Planning Commission will vote on the final ordinance language before it moves to the City Council for approval. This is the moment everything has been building toward. Your voice still matters — share this page and help us show Capitola how much this community cares.
